Roger and Me
Directed by Michael Moore
1989
★ 4.5 editorial score
Michael Moore invented a whole documentary style here, himself as the persistent nuisance: Flint, Michigan after General Motors leaves, filmed by someone who grew up in it.
“"I'm sick and tired of these damn fat cats," says someone about the auto company's job-cutting, investor-pleasing business strategy. Back then, the terms "Occupy movement" and "the 99%" weren't in use. But "Roger & Me" is as good an explanation as any for today's struggles of the middle class and the growing divide between the haves and the have-nots.”
