Privacy Policy
The short version
Skopia is a hand-curated collection of culture. You can browse all of it without an account. If you create one, you can like works and gather them into lists. We collect only what that takes, we use no advertising or analytics trackers, and we never sell your information.
If you just browse
We collect nothing about you personally, and Skopia sets no cookies of its own for visitors who aren’t signed in. Like every website, our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps routine technical logs — the pages requested, the time, and the network address they came from — to run and protect the service. We don’t use them to build profiles.
If you create an account
We hold:
- your name and email address;
- your password, stored only as a one-way scrambled form (a hash) that nobody — including us — can read back;
- if you sign in with Google, the name, email address and account identifier Google shares with us — nothing else from your Google account;
- what you do with your account: the works you like, the lists you make, the notes you add to them, and any error reports you send us;
- the date you joined, and a record of important account events (sign-up, password changes, deletion) kept for security.
When you’re signed in, Skopia sets one cookie that keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary and is not used for tracking.
How we use it
- to run your account: sign you in, show your likes and lists, and send the emails you need (confirming your address, resetting your password);
- to keep the service secure, for example by limiting repeated sign-in attempts from one network address.
We don’t sell your information, show you advertising, or send marketing email. If we ever start a newsletter, it will be strictly opt-in — you would have to ask for it — and this page will change first.
What others can see
Your likes and lists are private. If you choose to share a list, anyone with its link can see the list, its notes and your name as its maker; shared lists are kept out of search engines, and you can make one private again at any time. Your email address is never shown to anyone. Skopia has no public profile pages.
Who else handles it
- Vercel (hosting) and Neon (the database) store and serve the site and your account;
- Resend sends account emails on our behalf;
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Each handles data only to provide its service to Skopia. Some of them are in the United States, so your information may be processed there.
Pages that play music or trailers embed YouTube’s player in its privacy-enhanced mode; once you press play, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies. Store links take you to other sites with their own policies.
Your choices
From your account page you can:
- download everything we hold about your account — your profile, likes, lists and error reports — as a file;
- delete your account. This removes your profile, likes, lists, error reports and sign-in details at once. Security records of account events are kept, but with your name and email removed and only an anonymous reference in place of your account.
For any other question or request about your information — including to correct it, or to ask what we hold — email danstew2@gmail.com and we’ll answer by hand.
Children
Skopia accounts are for people aged 13 or over, or 16 or over in the European Union and the United Kingdom. We don’t knowingly create accounts for anyone younger; if you believe a child has made one, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell account holders by email before the change takes effect.
Questions about your privacy? Write to danstew2@gmail.com. We read every note by hand.
