Expulsion from the Garden of Eden (Cole)

Adam and Eve are driven from Eden through a blazing arch of rock, cast out of a lush, sunlit paradise into a dark, storm-blasted wilderness of jagged crags, dead trees, and lurking beasts. Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River School, splits the canvas between the two worlds - lost grace on one side, harsh exile on the other - making the landscape itself carry the whole moral drama. Now in Boston, the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden turns the Fall into a sublime contrast of nature radiant and nature savage.
