At no other place or time has one seen a phenomenon so unexpected and so complex: never have so many human lives been extinguished in so short a time, and with so lucid a combination of technological ingenuity, fanaticism, and cruelty.

Inoltre, fino al momento in cui scrivo… il sistema concentrazionario nazista rimane tuttavia un unicum, sia come mole sia come qualita. In nessun altro luogo e tempo si e assistito ad un fenomeno cosi imprevisto e cosi complesso: mai tante vite umane sono state spente in cosi breve tempo, e con una cosi lucida combinazione di ingegno tecnologico, di fantasimo e di crudelta.
