Monsters, Inc.
Directed by Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich
2001
★ 6.7 editorial score
Pixar built an entire energy economy out of children's nightmares: the joke is that the monsters are salaried professionals, and the film turns on one of them being frightened of a toddler.
“"Monsters, Inc." is cheerful, high-energy fun, and like the other Pixar movies, has a running supply of gags and references aimed at grownups. I also enjoyed the sly way that the monster world mirrors our own, right down to production quotas and sales slogans. "We Scare," they assure us, "Because We Care."”
