The Hunt for Red October
Directed by John McTiernan
1990
★ 6.0 editorial score
John McTiernan solves the language problem with a slow push in on the Russian political officer, and everyone speaks English from then on: submarine cat-and-mouse with almost no violence in it.
“[Alec Baldwin's] unbridled eagerness oozes out of every pore and he turns in a credible performance as Tom Clancy's diplomatic hero, using his clean-cut good looks and narcissistic charisma to play a man whose inexperience is no match for his swagger, fearlessness, and unflappable certitude.”
