Nude, Green Leaves and Bust

1932 · Oil on Canvas
Tate Modern, London
★ 6.9 editorial score

A voluptuous nude sleeps in curving lilac and gold forms beside a sculptured bust of her own head and a trailing philodendron, the whole composed in sinuous, sensual arabesques. The model is again Marie-Therese Walter, painted by Picasso during his extraordinary creative surge of 1932. Now on long-term loan to the Tate after selling for a record-breaking price, Nude, Green Leaves and Bust is among the masterpieces of that year - desire, sculpture, and nature fused, the sleeping muse transformed into a lush, monumental emblem of the artist's love and creative power.
