★ 7.1 editorial score
A dense, exuberant tangle of dripped and splattered paint - black, white, red, yellow, and blue - covers the entire surface in a churning, all-over skein with no focal point and no edge to the energy. Jackson Pollock poured and flung the paint in his signature action painting, the canvas a record of his whole body in motion. Now in Buffalo, Convergence became, in the Cold War years, a celebrated emblem of American freedom and spontaneity - pure, unbridled gesture, the artist's energy made permanently visible in a vast, vibrating field of color.
