Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies
A Japanese footbridge arches over the still green water of a lily pond, weeping willows and clusters of water lilies doubled in the glassy reflections, the whole scene a dense weave of foliage and light. Monet built this water garden at Giverny and painted it obsessively for the rest of his life. Now in the Museum of Modern Art, the Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies is among the most beloved of the series - the real world dissolving into a shimmering tapestry of greens and blues, nature and its reflection becoming one.
